The origin of Messing About In Sailboats

  • The original quote is from Kenneth Grahame's Wind In the Willows: "There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats."

Great story. Thank you.

So the lyrics were partly inspired by the summer in Sydney. I'm counting down the days. On Tuesday morning (United Airlines willing) that's where I'll be.

You thought the leaden winter would bring you down forever,
But you rode upon a steamer to the violence of the sun.

It had better have stopped raining by the time I get there!

But where did Jack get that hat?
