Although New Mexico is far from the reach of hurricanes, my childhood on the Gulf coast taught me proper respect for them. I would marvel at the seeming randomness and unpredictability of their devastation.
Though I occasionally sail on the coast, I've never been caught in anything too scary, and most days I only have to worry about mountain lake weather with unreliable winds and the occasional thunderstorm.
