The origin of Messing About In Sailboats

  • The original quote is from Kenneth Grahame's Wind In the Willows: "There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats."

Adam,
Although New Mexico is far from the reach of hurricanes, my childhood on the Gulf coast taught me proper respect for them. I would marvel at the seeming randomness and unpredictability of their devastation.

Though I occasionally sail on the coast, I've never been caught in anything too scary, and most days I only have to worry about mountain lake weather with unreliable winds and the occasional thunderstorm.
