I started Messing About In Sailboats in August 2006 on a whim. At the time, I was boat-less, club-less and missing sailing. My wife, Alice and I had been sailing on and off for twenty years but had got into a sailing rut.
I thought that if I couldn't go sailing maybe I should blog about it. It might be a way to indulge my passion in a virtual way.
For the first few months, I wasn't too sure what I was doing. My early efforts were boring and pretty random. I almost quit after the third month but I stuck at it mostly thanks to the encouragement of other bloggers in the small, nascent sailing blogging community. I am glad I stayed with it. This blog has fueled my passion for sailing and got us moving!
In 2008, my wife and I joined a sailing club, Raritan Yacht Club, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey and bought an old 26' sloop called Messing About. We sail it regularly and I have blogged about our many adventures. It got me racing again and I crew regularly on a C&C 34 in various regattas on Raritan Bay.
Through this blog, I have been lucky to discover so much about the world of sailing that I enjoy sharing - finding photos and music, hearing about great places to sail and learning about great sailors and their boats. Above all, I have met some wonderful people, fellow bloggers, sailors and lovers of all things nautical. Some of them have have even contributed guest posts.
I am always looking for ideas so if you have something to share please email me.
Thanks for stopping by. Come back often!
